BFI Film Academy

Aged 16 - 19? Love Film? Apply for the BFI Film Academy Bristol

No matter what you background, qualifications or experience this is your chance to be part of the film industry

As a student of the Film Academy:

You will get hands-on filmmaking experience with industry standard kit which will help you to develop practical knowledge and skills

You can explore your own creativity and passions in a supportive and dynamic environment

You will gain invaluable experience working alongside industry professionals 

You will watch a range of cinema from British independent to specialised films

You will work in teams to make a documentary or drama

Once you have completed the Network course, you will become part of the growing BFI Film Academy alumni network with access to opportunities such as BAFTA mentorships. You will also have the opportunity to complete a qualification on the course.

Courses cost £25. If you are unable to pay the full course fee, don’t let this discourage you from applying as costs may be waived. Bursaries for travel and childcare are also available if you require assistance with these costs.


Avon & Somerset Police Discovery Workshop

Summary of workshops: The workshops give an insight into the recruitment process for Police officers, PCSOs and Police staff and highlight any opportunities within these roles. From the workshop, if they are interested in a role within the organisation they would get support by being invited to pre application workshops and pre assessment centre workshops. They would also get the opportunity to be given a Diversity Champion if they would like one, which is a mentor.

Museum Futures Trainee

Bristol Culture and South West Museum Development are delighted to be working with British Museum for their ‘Museum Futures’ training programme. This is a year-long paid traineeship for 18-24 year olds, new to the cultural heritage sector and interested in growing their professional and digital skills. Trainees will be paid a bursary of £13,350 (tax free) and work towards a Level 3 Diploma in Cultural Heritage. Start date is January 2020.

The trainee will support the Digital Team at Bristol Culture and South West Museum Development. Through a training programme, job shadowing and placements within different teams the chosen candidate will receive full training to work on projects including:

  • Creating an online collection on the Google Arts and Culture platform

  • Developing guidelines for staff using the collections management system (Emu)

  • Cataloguing archaeology collections

  • Transcribing and extracting data from natural sciences collections

  • Developing a social media campaign for digital collections

  • Analysing digital engagement through web analytics

  • Creating, maintaining and promoting open data

Museum Futures is positive action traineeship. We particularly welcome applications from candidates that are under-represented in the museum sector, including black and minority ethnic candidates, candidates from diverse socio-economic backgrounds, and/or candidates with disability.

Creative youth network REACH UP Employability COURSE

Creative Youth Network have teamed up with UK Youth and Coca-Cola EP to bring you 'Reach Up', our latest employability course.

Learn how to network, gain real life experience, work with Coca-Cola mentors and run your own business for a day!

The course is available for young people age 16 to 23 who are NEET, underemployed or at risk of NEET.

watershed BFI Film Academy

The BFI Film Academy Bristol is now open for applications. No experience or qualifications are necessary just an interest in film and creative ideas. Bursaries are available. participants make documentaries for Rife magazine at Watershed and a drama with elements of animation at Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. The programme is designed to develop their practical filmmaking skills, build their peer and professional networks and give them confidence to take the next steps towards a career in the creative media.  

Courses run from Dec 2019 to Mar 2020.  Must Apply by 4th Nov

Occupational Studies- 14/10/2019

 This qualification develops a more 'hands on' approach to learning and can help participants gain practical skills, knowledge and understanding in their chosen vocational area, as well as prepare for work through real or simulated work situations.

This course is intended to help participants develop a solid base from which to further develop their skills and learning, and identify their transferable skills for their chosen vocations.

A work experience placement may be accessible up-on successful completion of this course.

 Eligibility:

Must be aged 16 +

Able to legally live and work in the UK

Bronze Arts Award Level 1

Join our Fashion, Art, Film, Theatre, Animation, Dance or Music course for 11-18 year olds. Learn about the art form and meet new people whilst working on a project and share your achievements at an end of term showcase. Gain confidence, team work skills, get better at communication and have fun with the creative projects whilst getting your Level 1 Bronze Arts Award qualification.

YOUTH EDUCATION SERVICE

Functional skills Math & English - Entry level 1,2 and 3 and Level 1 and 2.

English and Maths functional skills City and Guilds syllabus. Learners will be able to work at a level that suits their ability and will be entered into exams as and when they are ready. Exam entry is not compulsory. Lots of our learners progress from our courses to more formal learning opportunities such as college courses, and apprenticeship opportunities. Some of our learners also progress into employment and sometimes access our courses alongside employment opportunities.

Access to YES groups is flexible with no fixed start date or end date. Our sessions are informal and learners are able to work at a level that suits them when they feel ready to engage with what's on offer.

A2A foundation programme supports young people to; achieve realistic personal and team targets; improve confidence; remove barriers to learning and employment; gain or improve the following qualifications - GCSE’s English & Maths (for starts up to 31st October), Functional Skills English, Maths Entry 1 to Level 2, ICT and Personal Development. Employment, Further Education (College, Apprenticeship or Traineeship).

We enrol learners throughout the year and keep class sizes below 10, where possible to ensure as much individual support as possible can be offered to each and every learner. Each learner is also allocated a personal support advisor who will provide additional pastoral support where required.

Princes Trust

Employment, Teamwork and Community Skills

Across 12 weeks, Young people will gain a level 1 qualification whilst also building their confidence, employability skills and more. Young people will gain two weeks work experience, manage a community project, fundraise for a local charity and much more.

Progression routes available through City of Bristol College and other external employment and Apprenticeship providers
